MOUNTAIN BIKING: Haan Mountain Bike Traill

← IN EAST FORK WHITE LICK CREEK BRIDGEPORT IN Single Tracks →

Description

This trail is a public trail on private property. There is no fee but a waiver is required (available at the trailhead). This is an out and back trail totaling 6 miles of singletrack trail. This is an intermediate trail with side loops that are for advanced riders. It contains whoop-de-dos, roller coasters, benched areas, rocks, bridges, switchbacks, ramps, and other technical features. It is not for beginners but intermediate riders should have few problems if the advanced sections are avoided. Beware of the Wooden whoop-de-do and the Plunges if you don't have the skill to ride them. At the bottom of the State Street trail go right (uphill) on Valley Street .1 mi to the Valley Street section. The State St. section is more technical than the Valley St. section. To get 6 miles in such a small area requires a tight trail and good bike handling skills are necessary, but the trail flows nicely and there are stretches where speed can be attained. Signage makes the trail easy to follow if you pay attention, and it is well maintained during the prime riding season. There is a fair amount of climbing to get back to the top of State St. This is a mountain bike trail only and foot traffic is not allowed. A trail map, pictures, and video links are available at lafayettebiketrails.com.

Directions

From Downtown Lafayette, go south (uphill) on 9th Street to almost the top of the hill. Go left on State Street which is at a 45 degree angle. The trail is at the end of the first long drive on the left. Park on the road and ride to the trailhead. The trailhead sign is at the end of the drive and is visible from the road. It doesn't look like there would be a bike trail there so be prepared for a nice surprise.
